Motability Frequently Asked Questions

Am I entitled to a Motability car?

The Motability Scheme entitles those in receipt of selected mobility benefits to exchange this allowance for the lease on a new car. In order to qualify, you should have at least 12 months’ allowance remaining on either the Armed Forces Independence Payment, the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), or the Enhanced Rate for Mobility on the Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

Do you have to pay insurance on a Motability car?

One of the many benefits for choosing a Motability car is that it includes fully comprehensive motor insurance for all named drivers. You will therefore not need to pay any additional premiums on the vehicle of your choice.

What age does Motability stop?

There are no age restrictions to the Motability Scheme assuming you remain in receipt of one of the applicable mobility benefits.

Can I buy my Motability car?

Yes. At the end of the agreement you will have the opportunity to purchase the model outright. Please note, however, that you will be responsible for funding this purchase yourself.

Which Motability car is the best value?

Judging value is very much dependent on your own specific requirements. Simply take a look through the models we currently have available to find out more about the vehicle best suited to meet your needs.

Can I change my Motability car after two years?

You will only be able to change vehicles and your leasing agreement if there is a valid reason, such as the model is no longer suitable for your specific needs and it thus unusable. Speak to a member of the team at Hodgson Toyota for more details.

How many miles are you allowed in a Motability car?

The lease on your Motability vehicles entitles you to cover up to 60,000 miles over the course of your three-year agreement. Any mileage in excess of this will be subject to an additional charge.

How do Motability cars work?

When looking at the Motability Scheme, you need to ensure the model you select is suitable for your needs and can have the necessary adaptations made for you. For example, you may need storage space for your scooter or wheelchair, so selecting a compact hatchback will prove unsuitable. Once you’ve chosen the right car, our team of experts will arrange for any adaptations to be made and for delivery of your vehicle.

Who can drive a Motability car?

Any individual listed as a permitted driver on the Certificate of Motor Insurance for the vehicle will be able to drive your Motability car.

What does Motability cover?

In addition to the lease on a new car, the Motability Scheme also includes fully comprehensive vehicle insurance, road tax, breakdown cover, servicing and maintenance, and much more. Contact our Motability experts today to learn more.
