The compact Suzuki Swift hot hatch has undergone a serious makeover – making it bolder, safer and quicker off the mark than ever. As well as boasting a bolder appearance, this lighter model is now also available in a cutting-edge hybrid powertrain.
Launched way back in 1983, the Suzuki Swift has won the hearts of millions of drivers around the world. Now in 2017, Suzuki have just made their best selling vehicle even better.
Watch Dom's video which has had over 1.5 million views on Youtube not only proving the popularity of the new Suzuki Swift but also Hodgson's professional, warm and friendly approach to giving our customers help and advice.
The new Suzuki Swift is all grown-up – with its smarter, sportier look. The restyled exterior is longer and wider, to enhance practicality, and features beautifully sculpted edges. Slimmer, swept-back headlights to provide a sleeker, head-on appearance, while the smaller, hexagonal grille and a more modest front bumper to match its neat dimensions. This model doesn’t just look neater, it also weighs less (just 900kg) to further enhance performance and reduce CO2 emissions.
On board, the theme of maturity continues with a minimalist layout. Every control and information system is skilfully integrated into the dashboard – placing everything at the driver’s fingertips. In the rear, fold the flexible rear seats down and you’ll be rewarded with an impressive 579 litres of boot space – while the lengthened wheelbase means increased legroom for all. The speedometer’s surrounding hood provides an elegant finishing touch.
When it comes to powertrains, there’s plenty to choose from. The new, entry-level unit is a lively 1.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine with 109bhp – which returns up to 61.4mpg.
A hybrid engine has also been introduced to the range, which uses an electric motor to offer quicker acceleration. It’s frugal and refined, returning an impressive 65.7mpg and hitting 60mph in around 12 seconds.
It’s likely that another engine will join the line-up in 2018 for the performance-driven Sport model – an energetic 1.4-litre unit borrowed from the Vitara S. If you’re looking to head off-road, you’ll welcome the option of a four-wheel drive chassis.
Safety has also been enhanced in the new Suzuki Swift. You can expect model models to come with a safety package available as an optional extra – featuring high-beam assist and dual-sensor brake support to assist you. Available adaptive cruise control will also make driving even more of a pleasure.
Two sets of Isofix points also come as standard, to make fitting a child seat straightforward. As for infotainment, all but entry-level models come with a glossy, seven-inch touchscreen display with colourful graphics. Range-topping trims come with built-in satellite navigations for your convenience, while Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink connectivity make it easy to pair the car to your smartphone.
