Fun and versatility wrapped up in the Suzuki Jimny
Bold and full of character, the new Suzuki Jimny seamlessly blends its off-road heritage with modern technology to provide a dynamic, capable driving experience.
The Suzuki Jimny is first and foremost an off-roader, and its design reflects that. Its retro styling is part of its enduring appeal and incorporates a boxy shape, road headlamps and a striking, vertical grille. The squared-off wheel arches are clad in black and the elevated ride height indicates the vehicle’s prowess on tricky terrain. Meanwhile, a selection of metallic and two-tone paint colours ensures this model really catches the eye.
Step inside and you’ll find the Jimny keeps you in touch with the great outdoors. The wide windscreen and large windows provide ample visibility, while modern technology such as Bluetooth and DAB radio keep you digitally connected to the outside world. The cockpit is intuitively arranged with switches and controls that can be used when you’re wearing gloves, and the touchscreen is large and simple to operate. As for space, the boxy design means there’s plenty of headroom for tall passengers, and luggage room has been increased by 53 litres compared to the previous model.
The Suzuki Jimny is available with just one engine – a 1.5-litre petrol that’s tuned to deliver strong off-road performance. It produces 101bhp and delivers up to 130Nm of torque, with more than enough at low revs to get you over bumpy surfaces. The model is also equipped with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP four-wheel drive system, which sends power to the rear wheels when you’re on the road and offers high and low range modes for tougher terrain.
As with the previous iteration, the new Jimny sports a ladder frame chassis with three-link rigid axle suspension for optimum off-road agility. It’s also available with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions to suit your driving style.
Safety is, of course, paramount when you’re heading out into the unknown. That’s why the Suzuki Jimny is equipped with a host of features to ensure your security. In addition to basics such as stability control and airbags, new systems have been fitted: there’s Automatic Emergency Braking to help you maximise the braking capacity of the vehicle, Lane Departure Warning to help keep you safely in your lane on the motorway, and Traffic Sign Detection to prevent you unintentionally exceeding local speed limits. Essential for off-roading too are hill hold control and hill descent control, both of which feature as standard.
