Meet the new, curvier Suzuki Swift. It’s sportier, punchier and more sophisticated than before – it’s a true hot hatch. Set to be released later this year, here’s a snapshot of what you can expect from Suzuki’s latest innovation.
Suzuki has softened the Swift making it much easier on the eye. Curved edges, moulded contours and smaller, chiselled headlights give it the modern look you expect of brand new cars. Luckily, they’ve stayed true to the Swift’s signature straight roofline that’s reminiscent of a MINI, meaning there’s still plenty of headroom in this compact model. LED daytime running lights will be standard across the trim levels.
Plenty of kit
Lots of gadgets have been announced for the new Swift. Expect options such as a 4.2-inch LCD display and seven-inch touchscreen. The latter plays host to DAB digital radio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which enable you to make use of your smartphone’s apps while driving. You can even use it while wearing your gloves. Upgraded models are set to include a rear-view camera, 3D satellite navigation and Keyless Go.
Suzuki has shaved lots of weight off the Swift and the new model weighs just 890kg. It’s a nippy performer, adding to its hot hatch identity. You’ll be able to choose from two petrol units to power the Swift, including a 1.0-litre 110bhp Booster Jet and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder with 89bhp. There is also the option of a hybrid system which makes it more friendly on the environment. Adaptive cruise control will be an upgraded option, as will autonomous braking, both of which improve the safety of the hatchback.
