Our History

Hodgson Motor Group was established in 1959 by founder Les Hodgson who took on the challenge of a bankrupt filling station in Seghill, Northumberland. A family company from the start, the business was built up and then joined forces with the SAAB franchise in the early 1960's. The partnership with Saab lasted until 1975 when Mitsubishi Colt was taken on. The partnership with Mitsubishi Colt continued until 1985 and Hodgson were then reunited with the brand again in 2009.

Hodgson Motor Group went on to be one of the top selling car dealerships nationwide for several years and in 1987, after a spell with both the Hyundai and Isuzu franchises, the switch was made to Mazda cars. The nineties were a period of rapid growth for the business. In 1992 the business was relocated to the Silverlink and into purpose built premises. 1998 saw the introduction of Suzuki, and two years later in 2000, Toyota was launched in a further custom built facility next to our other two existing dealerships.

Taking the opportunity to build on the Toyota brand, The Hodgson Motor Group acquired the vacant Minories Honda site near the MetroCentre and earmarked it for a massive £4M re-development project, which opened for business in late 2005. Hodgson went on to be top selling dealers for all the brands that we support nationwide.

In 2009 work started on our state-of the-art Mazda dealership near our Toyota Gateshead centre which features a stunning 32 car glass car display tower, one of the first of its kind which allows us to quickly bring a wide range of vehicles down into our showroom for the customer to view without having to worry about adverse weather conditions. This centre was opened in late 2010.

We wish to thank all of our customers past, present and future for your support.
