Toyota’s overhaul of the RAV4 has introduced a new-look sophisticated exterior, extra features and a brand new Hybrid addition to the range. Trim options for the Hybrid are the Icon, Design and, unique to the Hybrid, the Business Plus.
Restyled LED headlights and tail-lamps, a remodelled grille and bumper, and rear privacy glass all contribute to the RAV4’s stylish new exterior. Upgrade to the Business edition for silver under-runs at front and rear, and front fog lamps. The New Toyota RAV4 is available in a choice of seven metallic body colour options as well as two white paint finishes, either solid or pearlescent.
Inside there is a contemporary look, with the instrument panel featuring a colour TFT screen.
Stylish upholstery choices in high-quality materials complete the luxurious feel. The Business edition also has a leather trimmed steering wheel, gear shift and handbrake. All models are fitted with Toyota’s Touch 2 multimedia system, with steering wheel-mounted controls for safer operation. Even at high speeds the cabin is quiet, thanks to the enhanced soundproofing which Toyota has incorporated in the new RAV4. Higher spec models also have Bluetooth and iPod® connectivity.
The RAV4 range includes two Hybrid options – the 2.5-litre petrol eCVT available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Other engine choices are the 2.0-litre petrol CVT all-wheel drive and the 2.0-litre six-speed manual diesel with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive models give a sportier drive and more athletic road handling, which is particularly noticeable when cornering. Fuel consumption for the Hybrid models is 55.4-57.6mpg with CO₂ emissions of 115-118g/km. The diesel engine has slightly higher CO₂ emissions at 124g/km, but yields an impressive 60.1mpg. The Hybrid fares best on acceleration from 0-60mph, taking just 8.2 seconds, while the diesel takes approximately 9.4 seconds and the petrol 10.5 seconds.
Safety features are plentiful in the RAV4 range. Toyota’s Safety Sense package is included on all models except the Active edition. The package comprises features such as automatic high beam, which lowers in response to detecting an oncoming vehicle, restoring full beam immediately after the vehicle has gone past. Other Safety Sense features include a pre-collision alert system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control and road sign assist. ABS, hill-start assist, and traction control are among the safety elements fitted right across the range.
