Whats is Motability?

The Motability Scheme enables people to exchange either their Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance or their War Pensions’ Mobility Supplement to obtain a new car.
Are you eligible for Motability?
If you receive either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance or a War Pensioners Allowance, then the answer is yes, you do qualify for Motability. The only condition is that you have at least 12 months award remaining. There are no credit checks or other restrictions applicable.
There are various options available to you when buying a new or used vehicle, but the most popular scheme is the Motability 3 year Contract Hire. Even if you do not drive, you can still obtain a new vehicle and choose up to two other people to drive for you.
If you are a parent or carer to a child who receives the allowance, you can apply too. If you are a relative or carer to someone who claims the allowance (recognised by the DWP as an appointee), you can apply on their behalf.
The only condition is that the car is used for the benefit of the disabled person. This can involve travelling in the vehicle or a driver running errands for the disabled person.
